As a Mum myself, it makes me so happy knowing that I’ve helped another Mum build her business, so that she gets to spend more time with her children

My name is Shelly Baker, I’m a branding and income strategist, specialising in working with mums to build a profitable home based business, enabling them to make the most of the time with their families and never miss out on those important moment’s, that the daily 9-5 never allows.

So, if you have a product or service idea, or perhaps you’ve already started your business, but things are slower than slow, you’ve come to the right place. I can help you get things right and build a brand to be proud of, that earns you the income you deserve.

Want to know what I do? OK here’s the whole story

I left school with a head full of candy floss, well at least that’s what it seemed like. I had no real idea what I wanted to do or how I would do it. From when I was a child I wanted to be an entertainer on a holiday camp and true to form I never let a goal pass me by, so I spent a whole summer in sunny Sussex back in 1998. My bubble was burst when the income barely covered the rent and I worked every hour in the day. In the years following I tried out various job opportunities in different fields, seeing time and time again how businesses could be doing more, for their staff and their customers. I hatched a plan to soak in as much from each role as I could, learning the art of branding, marketing and anything else I could get into on my journey to find the perfect job.

Fast forward to 2002, I married my husband Mr Baker, we bought our first home and I was holding down not one but two jobs to help pay the mortgage. I was working full time as a retail manager and part time as a business consultant. Life was hectic but I had no ties so it was an ideal way to get the bills paid. In 2006 along came our first child and the realisation that I didn’t want to continue to work every hour of the day. My outlook on life changed and I decided to leave my retail job to spend more time with my little boy.

“I have known Shelly for many years and she has always been approachable and friendly.  So when I needed help finding my motivation and a helping hand to get back on track with my Photography business she was the logical person to approach.
No matter what sector your business is in, or how big or small it is I think it is often easy to loose sight of where you are heading and a fresh pair or eyes and new perspective can be invaluable. Whenever I have had down days and needed a push in the right direction Shelly is always on hand.  Would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone.”

Two years later our family had expanded with the arrival of our second child. We bought our second home and were looking forward to a bright future. I was still juggling working freelance on the business consulting with temping work to bring in a little more money. I was so busy but I made time for the boys and my husband where I could. Then it happened, my Mum got sick, at just 47 she had an incurable lung disease. As the months passed she was in and out of the hospital and it became obvious she wasn’t getting better. We spent many days together making the most of the time we could, she even taught me to bake. It was a tough time but I’ll cherish those last few months with her.

Family is everything, we only get one shot at this life and I am a big believer in making the most of it.

Shortly after my Mum passed I decided to use the new skill of baking she’d given me to start up a cake business from home. I’d had no training but I had a natural talent and my passion was in helping to provide those birthday memories of fun cakes for other families, just like my mum had for us. It soon took off and I was getting awards for my cake designs at international cake competitions.

In 2010, our family expanded one last time with the arrival of our little girl Erin. Luckily, I’d built the business in a way that allowed me to take time off to spend with my new baby and enjoy making memories with my family.

Later that year the fun of teaching began. So many customers had mentioned how they’d love to be the one making the cakes for their children, if only they knew how. I realised I could help these mums build memories for their children that would last a lifetime, just by sharing the basics of cake decorating. It didn’t stop there though, I was soon running classes on how to make 3D cakes and even how to set up your own cake business.

Things have grown for me year by year. My book has been sold worldwide.

I’m teaching online, in magazines and at big events, with student’s in over 14 countries. I’ve demonstrated cake decorating to thousands of people at international cake shows, working with some of the biggest companies in the cake industry and I’ve loved every minute of it.

I never tire of hearing women talking about how, with my help, they could build their business to work around their family.
